ART SHIBUYA

ART SHIBUYA 2025 celebrates the vibrant intersection of contemporary art, urban energy, and human movement through the works of distinguished artists selected for the fourth edition of the Shibuya Station Exhibition. Set in the heart of Tokyo's ever-evolving cultural hub, this annual showcase transforms one of the busiest transit centers in the world into a living, breathing gallery-an immersive space where art and everyday life merge. For a brief yet powerful moment, commuters, travelers, and locals alike become part of an unfolding dialogue between creativity and the city itself. Each year, ART SHIBUYA redefines the boundaries of where and how art can exist. By placing cutting-edge works within the fast-paced environment of Shibuya Station, it invites millions of people to encounter art in unexpected ways-to pause, reflect, and rediscover the urban landscape that surrounds them. This unique convergence of contemporary aesthetics and metropolitan rhythm underscores Tokyo's role as a global epicenter of artistic innovation and cultural exchange. This book serves as both documentation and exploration: a curated journey through the participating artists and their featured works. Within its pages, readers will find a spectrum of creative expression-from bold installations and experimental media to subtle gestures of form and color-that reflect the multiplicity of perspectives shaping Shibuya's creative scene today. Each artist contributes a distinct voice to the collective narrative, engaging with themes of identity, technology, community, and the ever-changing face of city life. From emerging talents to internationally recognized figures, ART SHIBUYA 2025 encapsulates the spirit of dialogue, collaboration, and imagination that defines contemporary art in Japan and beyond. Together, these works chart the dynamic relationship between art and the public realm, revealing how creativity continues to transform familiar spaces into sites of wonder and reflection. With full-color reproductions, insightful artist statements, and curatorial commentary, this volume offers readers an intimate view of the ideas and processes behind the exhibition. More than a catalog, it stands as a lasting testament to the power of art to connect, to inspire, and to reimagine the ways we inhabit and experience our shared environments. ART SHIBUYA 2025 is both a record and a celebration-of movement, of place, and of the enduring conversation between art and the city.
