The treatises Diseases of Women I and Diseases of Women II in this volume represent the most extensive account in the Hippocratic Collection of pathological conditions of the female reproductive organs, says Potter, although many other treatises published in volumes IX and X exhibit similar, and in some cases even verbatim identical, texts. Some scholars have hypothesized various identities of authorship and/or source material among the gynecological treatises, but the dearth of evidence makes conclusions difficult. At any rate the treatises have appeared together under the same title (literally "Matters of Women") since the earliest known versions. The treatises are in Greek with facing pages of English translation. Appendices provide a lexicon of therapeutic agents and their Greek names.
